Android 6.0.1 OTA Update Rolling Out Now For Moto G3 In India

Moto G (Gen. 3) Now Receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update in India

Motorola is rolling out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA update to its smartphones in India. While earlier this month the Moto X Play got the update, the company has now brought the same OS update to the budget Moto G (Gen 3) handsets. The handset already received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update earlier this year.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update changelog stays the same as that seen in the Moto X Play OS update. The update comes bundled with Google's monthly security update - Android security update for March - as well as adds Unicode 8.0 emoji support. The update for the Moto G (Gen. 3) also brings camera shutter tone switch, letting users turn off/on the shutter sound any time. Some stability improvements have also been made.

The new update is now available over-the-air (OTA), though Moto G (Gen 3) users can manually check for updates by going to the Settings app of the smartphone, and navigating to About Phone > System Updates. The update v24.61.55 weighs 371.4MB, so we recommend users to switch to Wi-Fi before downloading the OS update.

Moto G (Gen. 3) got the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update back in January this year. Android Marshmallow (previously just Android M) brings features such as revamped app permissions; Google Now on Tap feature; Android Pay mobile payment system, and new fingerprint APIs for developers among others. It also features some Google's security patches as well.

Apart from the regular Marshmallow features, Motorola will be also pushing some Moto-specific changes that users will see after updating to the new Android OS version. Some changes to Moto enhancements include removal of Moto Assist feature as part of upgrade to Android M. The company explains that the latest OS includes an option for 'Do Not Disturb' under the 'Sound and notification' settings that performs similar function what Moto Assist does.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Now Receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update in India

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update in India

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to the Galaxy Note 5 in India. Users should start receiving an over-the-air (OTA) update notification on their Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
The Android 6.0.1 update for the Galaxy Note 5 also brings the March Android security update apart from adding other changes.
According to the update changelog, the Galaxy Note 5 will receive upgraded TouchWiz, which brings enhanced usability and an updated visual design; advanced power saving mode can restrict background data and extends battery life; a new vibration pattern concept has been applied; settings for theme, email, and icon/ widget have been reset, and a new Quick Connect app will be added that will help users find and connect to nearby devices by showing currently connected devices and previous connections. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is about 1.26GB in size, so we recommend users to switch to Wi-Fi before downloading the update.
To refresh, some of the new features Android 6.0 Marshmallow (previously just Android M) brings include revamped app permissions; Google Now on Tap feature; new Chrome feature that will change the Web experience for Android users; new ways to handle Web links; Android Pay mobile payment system is now official with Android M; new fingerprint APIs for developers to add into their apps, New Silent feature for sound and vibrate mode as well as a 'Do Not Disturb' mode to block all sounds or only alarms and notifications, and battery saver features called Doze that will make Android devices smart about managing power. Some of the other additions include new RAM manager, adoptable storage devices, new app drawer, auto backup, and restore for apps.
Samsung's 2014 flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone was recently reported to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in South Korea.

Android N Beta Program OTA Update Soft Bricking Some Nexus Devices

Android N Beta Program OTA 'Soft Bricking' Some Nexus Devices; Fix Available

Google last week released the Android N Developer Preview earlier than expected offering developers a look at the new features of the upcoming Android build. The Mountain View giant also announced Android Beta Program which will allow users to test the new version, and receive new builds as an OTA update.
Some Nexus users are reporting that after trying to install the over-the-air (OTA) update, they were unable to boot their devices. Several users took to Nexus Help Form and AOSP Issue Tracker to report the issue.
One of the users on Nexus Help Forum wrote, "Enrolled in the Android N preview update. I got the OTA update and started the process. It got to the Android logo and it said "system updating" or something similar. After a while I see an Android logo on its back and the word ERROR! underneath it. It rebooted itself after a couple minutes but it stays stuck at the Google logo. My Nexus 9 was completely stock - not rooted nor unlocked. I cannot flash the factory image since instructions say I need to enable USB debugging. Since I can't even boot into the OS, I can't do that. I already factory reset the thing and it didn't help."
Android Police points out that the issue revolves around the fact that users are unable to "unlock their bootloaders" which means they cannot fix the issue with a factory image. Google has quickly acknowledged the issue and is now offering step-by-step guide. The fix is now available for all Nexus devices that can be upgraded to Android N.
In other news, Google confirmed that users can get OTA updates for the latest Android N Developer Preview even if they manually flashed the system images. The clarification came after a note on the developer site that said if users flashed Android N system image they won't receive OTA updates.
Android Police first reported the change in the note that now says, "If you decide you want to get OTA updates after manually flashing a device, all you need to do is enroll the device in the Android Beta Program. You can enroll the device at any time to receive the next Preview update over the air."
