Samsung officially unveils Exynos 8 Octa 8890 chipset, likely headed for Galaxy S7

Hot on the heels of Qualcomms Snapdragon 820 unveiling, Samsung has revealed their own next-gen chipset that is likely to be inside most of their 2016 flagship products. Its the Exynos 8 Octa 8890, a 64-bit Octa-Core chipset that has all the juice youd expect from a Samsung kit.

Its built on a 14nm FinFET process, and is the first single-chip Exynos that combines their custom ARMv8-based CPU with an LTE Category 12/13 modem. Samsung didnt go into extreme detail about the custom CPU cores, but they suggest its 30% faster and 10% more efficient than the Exynos 7. The custom cores will make up the high-end part of the chipset, and ARMs Cortex-A53 will be used on the lower end. Itll also sport Mali-T880 graphics which should be able to rival the top-line option from Qualocmms lineup quite easily.

Samsung says mass production for the chip will begin by the end of this year, and its possible that theyll be ready to go in time for the Samsung Galaxy S7, which were hearing could launch as soon as February or March 2016.
